Pedagogical Innovation project

Years 2004 and 2005
Why this task?

The aim of strengthening methodological and educational innovation and development is a very important part of the daily endeavours of the Association and the HETEL schools.
In September 2004, an Educational Innovation Committee was created which, during the 2004-2005 academic year, developed a framework of reference for the schools in three areas:

  • Profile of the ideal student
  • Methodological development and educational spaces and resources
  • Teacher profile

Members of the Pedagogical Innovation Committee
The Working Committee was constituted in October 2004 with people from 10 HETEL schools with different profiles, although the majority of its members were in charge of the teaching-learning process. Specifically, the Committee was made up of the following individuals:

Working methodology
The working methodology used was agreed by the Pedagogical Innovation Committee itself when starting their venture:

  • The starting point was the definition of the desired student profile. This defined horizontal and common aspects, leaving aside technical or professional skills, which vary depending on the training area. This student is defined as someone in the final year of middle degree vocational training courses, Baccalaureat and high degree vocational training courses, though students who, in general, are destined for insertion in skilled employment can also be considered. In other words, young people or adults over the age of 16 who spend around 2 years in the school, or a considerable amount of time in the context of continuous training or training for the unemployed.
  • Monthly working sessions were held to find common ground, agree on content and take decisions that allow work to move forwards. Tasks were established for the members, who undertook them in the interval between meetings.
  • Throughout the process, contributions from the different members of the Committee were corroborated with teachers from their respective schools.
  • After drawing up the documents, the work undertaken was verified with a wider group of teachers and heads from the Association’s schools.

Year 2006
The Educational Innovation Committee went on undertaking various works which aim to foster pedagogical innovation in the schools. This is so because we believe that pedagogical innovation is the corestone to help students develop key competences which are so useful for life and work.

Two wew the deliverables produced by the Committee in 2006: the Tutor profile and a Guide for teachers on how to act in the classroom. Both are available in the Association´s webpage (http://www.hetel.org/documentos-en/doc_innovacion-en)

Years 2007 and 2008

The Educational Innovation Committee has identified Ten key competences for Vocational Training - How to develop and how to evaluate them. For each of these competences a definition is given, as well as the evaluation criteria and some hints on how to develop and how to evaluate them.

This new deliverable can be very helpful to Vocational Training Centres and other educational schools when aiming at developing and evaluating these competences on their students.

This work by the Educational Innovation Committee is also available at HETEL´s webpage (http://www.hetel.org/documentos-es/doc_innovacion-en/).
